In order to offer schooling opportunity to the adult population that did not attend school when younger, Fundação Bradesco started in 1985 the Education for Young and Adults. This proposal produced, jointly with the Fundação Roberto Marinho, the "Novo Telecurso 2º Grau" (New Middle Education Course by Television), known today as "Telecurso 2000".
The Education for Young Persons and Adults covers presently:
• Alphabetization Program (1st. to 4th. grades)
• Fundamental Education (5th. to 8th. grades) and Middle Education - By Teleeducation
Starting in November 1999, the Alphabetization of Young and Adults Program has the purpose of reducing illiteracy, especially in the communities where the Fundação Bradesco school units are located.
The course serves, with priority, the parents of students and other persons of the community who, for different reasons, did not attend school or did not conclude the studies up the 4th. grade of the Fundamental Education.
The Television courses, Fundamental Education (5th. to 8th. grades) and the Middle Education, cover the need for education of thousands of Brazilian people, allowing the full development of their potentialities, and offering conditions so they may acquire the qualification and knowledge necessary to practice citizenship.
Through television school classes and through agreements executed with companies and institutions, more than 20,000 students are served per year all over Brazil.
The investment in this type of education reinforces the pledge of Fundação Bradesco and of the Covenanted Companies and Institutions with the population that faces, amongst other obstacles, the limitations of time for studies.
To Fundação Bradesco, the Young and Adult Education is a real opportunity to prepare individuals to face better the competitivity in the labor market and to the full and conscious performance of citizenship.
